DURHAM – A 72-year-old Freeport driver escaped with apparent minor injuries when his truck left Route 125, went through a fence, rolled over several times and landed in a pasture Thursday morning.
Wayne Hollingworth had to be extricated from his pickup after losing control while rounding a curve just beyond the Soper Road intersection, said Androscoggin County Deputy Sheriff Lt. Glenn Holt. Hollingworth was driving north when he went off the right shoulder, overcorrected, then overcorrected a second time, he said.
His truck then skidded sideways off the right shoulder, striking a culvert, went through a fence and several cedar shrubs, rolled over several times and landed in a pasture. He was pinned inside the cab and personnel from Durham Fire & Rescue extricated him. He was transported to Parkview Hospital in Brunswick by Lisbon Emergency, Holt said.
He suffered apparent bumps and bruises and was later transferred to Maine Medical Center for further evaluation, Holt said.
One of two horses in the pasture escaped but was rounded up by neighbors. Neither animal was injured.
Hollingworth’s 2000 Chevy S-10 pickup was demolished in the 11:20 a.m. crash. He was wearing a seat belt, Holt said.
