A Lewiston man wanted for trying to lure a teenager to a motel is in local hands after being extradited from California.

Adrian Saavedra, 24, was returned to Maine on Wednesday after a weekend arrest in Los Angeles.

“He arrived in Maine at 9 a.m. Wednesday, and he’s back safely in the Androscoggin County Jail,” said Sgt. James Jacques.

Lewiston police arrested Saavedra in March and charged him with trying to solicit a 13-year-old girl over the Internet for sex.

Police were alerted to the solicitation after a woman researching Internet crime for a school project reported that a man had contacted her, looking for a teen for sex.

Police said Saavedra showed up at a Lewiston motel expecting to meet the teenager. Instead, he was greeted by police who arrested him, charging Saavedra with solicitation of a child.

Saavedra was eventually released from jail, but police said he had violated conditions of that release and began searching for him.

Jacques said Saavedra was pulled over for a traffic infraction in Los Angeles last weekend. An outstanding California warrant put him in jail. The Maine warrant came to light while he was there.

Saavedra was recently featured on WGME-TV’s Fugitive File, where wanted suspects are featured and anyone with information on their whereabouts is asked to alert police.

“We only have three people left on that list,” Jacques said. “It’s worked out pretty well for us.”
