LEWISTON – One of the city’s lighting circuits failed on Friday, and crews are working to rewire lights in part of the downtown, city officials said Monday.
That means in some parts of downtown the lights are out.
“It’s spotty,” police Sgt. Jeff Parshall said Monday. Police recommend motorists and pedestrians use extra caution during darkness until the lights are back on.
“We are hopeful this part of the circuit may be repaired and back in service before the end of this week,” Public Services Director Dave Jones said in a statement.
On Friday, it was discovered that wiring from a transformer had failed. Wires from the corner of Bates and Oak streets to a manhole near the bus station are being pulled and replaced.
Crews will be working on the Bates Street part of the circuit, which includes Bates Street (from Oak to Ash), Oak Street (from Bates to Blake), Blake Street (from Oak to College), College Street (from Blake to Bates) and Ash Street (from Bates to Park including the municipal parking lot).
The other part of the street lighting circuit will be repaired after the first part is back online.
That includes Oak Street (from Bates to Park), Middle Street (from Main to Oak), Park Street (from Main to Ash), Ash Street (from Park to Park Street Alley), and Park Street Alley (from Ash to Courtyard Plaza).
The Courtyard Plaza is not affected.
