AUBURN – State Rep. Deborah Simpson, D-Auburn, has been reappointed to the Child Care Advisory Council and the Right To Know Advisory Committee by Speaker of the House Glenn Cummings.

“The policies that Deb has advanced to benefit children and her extensive experience on the Judiciary Committee make her an excellent asset to these committees,” Cummings said.

The Child Care Advisory Council advises the Legislature and the Department of Health and Human Services regarding child care services in the State. The council encourages the development of child care policies that are coordinated among state agencies to promote quality, uniformity and efficiency of service.

Simpson has sponsored several pieces of legislation to assist in the collection of child support and to diminish the occurrence of child abuse and domestic violence.

The Right To Know Advisory Committee serves as a resource and adviser regarding Maine’s Freedom of Access laws. The Committee advises the governor, the Legislature, the Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Judicial Court, and local and governmental entities on best practices in providing public access to records and proceedings and in maintaining the integrity of the Freedom of Access laws.

Simpson serves as House chair on the Judiciary Committee, a position she held last legislative session as well. She is also a member of the Law and Criminal Justice Committee of the National Conference of State Legislatures.
