Board: Poland selectmen

Issue: Selectmen decided to leave the vacant, part-time position for assistant code enforcer open until members have a better understanding of next year’s budget. The board should make a decision before March, when the town warrants will be completed for April’s town meeting.

Issue: Selectmen will not approve any moves to extend the reach of the public water system unless money outside the town budget can be found.

The scoop: Members made no decision on a proposal to spend an estimated $250,000 of the downtown’s tax increment financing to extend the public water line by 3,000 feet. They also declined to support an estimated $140,000 project that would add an apartment complex and subdivisions to a water line that serves the new Poland Spring bottling plant and Poland Spring Hotel, unless outside funding can be found.

Issue: The architectural design for a proposed town office is nearly complete.

Members of the Town Office Committee plan to review them Wednesday.

The scoop: Selectmen supported the construction because the current facility is cramped, lacks adequate storage for town records, and has issues with handicap accessibility.

Up next: The Town Office will formulate any changes to the building design. A public hearing will be set once cost estimates are final.

Search begins for town manager

Issue: Selectmen approved a nine-member search committee to begin reviewing applicants for the town manager. Members include: Gino Camardese, Donald D’Agostino, William Fessenden, Robert Gayton Jr., Hon. Scott Lansley, Normand LaPlante, Amedeo Lauria, Paul Wayne Loesberg and Steve Wood.
