LEWISTON – A Bartlett Street man was arrested Thursday morning, accused of sexually assaulting a woman the night before at his apartment.
Richard C. Letourneau, 60, of 106 Bartlett St., was charged with gross sexual assault, criminal threatening with a dangerous weapon and aggravated assault after a woman fled that apartment and called police.
“As soon as she could get away from him in the morning, she made the call,” said Lewiston police Sgt. Danny LaChance.
The woman, who said she was forcibly assaulted, was taken for medical treatment. Police said the alleged victim and Letourneau knew each other prior to the alleged attack.
Details about how the incident occurred were not available Thursday night, but police said force was used and that Letourneau assaulted the victim.
It was not disclosed what type of weapon was involved.
Police found and arrested Letourneau at his home Thursday morning. He was questioned by a detective before being taken to the Androscoggin County Jail in Auburn, where he was booked at about 3 p.m..
Police said they are familiar with Letourneau, a laborer by trade, from previous legal run-ins.
Court records show a criminal history of terrorizing, driving violations and numerous violations of probation.
Letourneau was being held at the jail late Thursday night on $50,000 cash bail.
