AUBURN – A 33-year-old woman missing in Mount Apatite Park on Thursday night was found just before dawn Friday alive and unharmed in the woods.

More than two dozen searchers from a variety of agencies combed the woods for more than 12 hours before the woman was found about 4:45 a.m.

Police declined to provide the woman’s name. However, others identified her as Saxyn Piffath, who had been staying at her parents’ home off Hatch Road.

Beginning about 3:30 p.m. Thursday, a large team of searchers gathered at Mount Apatite and began looking for the missing woman. The team included local, state and county police, National Guardsmen, firefighters and Maine game wardens.

The searchers probed the woods on foot, with tracking dogs and on all-terrain vehicles into Friday morning before Piffath was found.

She was taken to a Lewiston hospital for observation. Police said she was cold but otherwise healthy after the long night in the woods.
