LISBON – A broadsword-wielding man held police at bay for almost an hour Saturday in the woods off of Hatch Road.
John Raymond of Lisbon allegedly cut himself with glass on the neck, chest and arms before retreating to the woods off Hatch Road with a four-foot-long sword at 2:34 p.m. Saturday afternoon. Police were called, but Raymond allegedly held them at bay with the sword, threatening to hurt himself or officers, according to Sgt. Scott Stewart.
Stewart said he does not know where Raymond got the sword. “It looks like something out of ‘Braveheart,'” Stewart said. The sword was at least four feet long and about four inches wide at its widest point. It narrowed down to a sharp, pointed tip.
Raymond finally agreed to drop the sword and surrender to police at 3:39 p.m. He was taken to St. Mary’s Regional Medical Center for evaluation.
