LISBON – Town councilors voted 4-2 in support of TABOR on Tuesday.
Councilwoman Norma Wells was absent.
Councilor Dave Crafts motioned that the panel support the Taxpayers Bill of Rights referendum, which was seconded by Gina Mason. Also supporting the motion were E. Charles Smith and Layne Curtis. Michael Bowie and Janet Henry opposed it.
The panel discussed the pros and cons of TABOR at their meeting two weeks ago but took no official position then. It was not listed on this week’s agenda.
After public hearings, it was voted to charge a permit fee of $10 for new entrances onto public ways and adopt a street ordinance that will require a $20 fee for street excavations. The council also voted to renewed Coombs-Mountfort American Legion Post 158’s special entertainment and liquor license.
It took no action on a bid from a New Hampshire firm to refurbish Engine 7 at a cost of $43,000; instead council members asked that additional bids be sought.
The council adopted the new general assistance maximums set by the state and authorized $34,000 in fiscal year-end account transfers.
