LEWISTON – A man injured when he crashed his motorcycle on Randall Road late Wednesday night was being treated a day later at Central Maine Medical Center.
Police said Richard Michael Behr, 45, of Auburn suffered head and other injuries when he lost control of his Harley-Davidson and was thrown from the bike. He was listed in stable condition at CMMC Thursday night, according to a nursing supervisor.
Behr was riding alone about 11:30 p.m. when he crashed the bike while riding toward Sabattus Street, police said.
A woman who drove upon the crash site was credited with stopping other vehicles from driving through as the victim lay in the road. A nurse who lives near the crash scene also assisted as police and emergency workers headed to the scene.
Police investigating the crash charged Behr with driving while intoxicated as he was being treated at the hospital. Investigators said it appeared speed and alcohol were factors in the late night wreck.
No other vehicles were involved in the crash, police said. Damage to Behr’s 1992 Harley was estimated at $2,000.
