WALES – Speed is being blamed for an accident on Route 132 Saturday afternoon.

Police say Quinton Johnson, 18, of Wales, was traveling along Route 132 when he veered into oncoming traffic about 4:50 p.m. Saturday.

“There were cars oncoming, and he swerved to get out of their way,” said Trooper Ricci Cote of the Maine State Police. “It appears he overcompensated.”

Johnson’s car, a 1996 Saturn, rolled into a ditch and into a tree, tipping on its side. Rescue crews worked for more than an hour to cut Johnson out of the car.

Johnson was taken to Central Medical Center and treated for a fractured arm and a fractured collarbone. He was listed in stable condition Saturday night.

Cote said it does not appear that drugs, alcohol or wet roads were factors.

“It wasn’t even wet where the accident occurred,” he said. “It appears speed was a factor, but the investigation into this accident is ongoing.”

Cote said no charges had been filed.
