lisbon – Drivers who travel Upland Road are reminded of a construction project scheduled to begin there late this week. The project includes a two-week bridge closure scheduled to begin June 19, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

“We need to replace the structural plate pipe arch, similar to an oversized culvert, that carries Upland Road over Barker Brook about half a mile east of Webster Street in Lisbon,” explains Bernard McCarthy, MDOT’s construction manager for the project.

“Work on the project is scheduled to begin Friday, June 9, but the major impact will come on Monday, June 19, when Upland Road will be closed to through traffic at Barker Brook for two continuous weeks. Local traffic will still be able to use Upland Road as far as Barker Brook, but through traffic will be directed over a detour using Mill Street, Webster Street and Route 196,” McCarthy continued.

“We’re reminding motorists now so they can plan on construction delays beginning this Friday and mark their calendar for the two-week closure later this month,” McCarthy notes.

The contract for the project, awarded to Wyman and Simpson of Richmond on a bid of just over $249,000, calls for completion of the project by the end of July.
