MECHANIC FALLS – Voting booths in the Elm Street School gymnasium will remain open for four hours after the end of Saturday’s town meeting or until 6 p.m., whichever is later.
In the only contested race, political newcomer Paula Stotts is challenging incumbent Marchian Crane for a seat on the Town Council.
Incumbents Terri Arsenault and Joyce Crane are seeking re-election to the School Committee; and Wayne Marquis and Randy Plummer want to continue as sanitary district trustees.

Age: 71
Occupation: Retired salesman
Education: Mechanic Falls High School; some college
Municipal experience: Mechanic Falls Town Council; Mechanic Falls School Committee; total of 30 years of service
Why he’s running: Remains committed to serving the community and seeks to focus on work with the Mechanic Falls Economic Development Commission to bolster the town’s tax base.
Paula Stotts
Age: 42
Occupation: Organic poultry and vegetable farmer
Education: Manchester Township (N.J.) H.S.; some college
Community service: 4-H club leader, adult adviser to young adults group at Hosanna Church, Oxford; Navy ombudsman
Why she’s running: Believes everyone should take their turn serving their community. Questions the frequency of Town Council executive sessions and wants to keep people informed of what’s going on.
