AUBURN – Two teens were taken to the hospital after the vehicle they were riding in crashed into an apple tree Friday night.

Jonathan W. Myles, 16, of Turner suffered a head injury and his passenger, Jonathan Phillips, 17, complained of arm pain, according to police reports.

A nursing supervisor at Central Maine Medical Center said the two youths had not been admitted to the hospital.

Myles was northbound on Perkins Ridge Road at about 10:35 p.m. approaching a curve when the 2004 Volvo SUV he was driving skidded on ice, police said. The vehicle careened into an apple orchard and struck a tree, bounced off it and came to rest against the remains of another tree.

Rescue workers had to cut through the vehicle to get Myles and Phillips out. Both were wearing seat belts.

Damage to the Volvo was estimated at $40,000; to the apple tree, $500.

Police issued a citation to Myles for driving a passenger who was not a family member. He held a restricted license due to his age.
