GREENE – The town voted to accept Deer Run Road in Deer Run Subdivision Phase 1 as a town way during a special town meeting Monday night.

Selectmen decided to back the proposal when Deer Run Road residents agreed to deposit $14,000 into an escrow account to help pay for the needed roadwork and ditching that will bring the road up to town standards.

The board said the next step is for the residents to present a deed with a clear title to the town. Once the deed is reviewed by the town’s attorney and approved by the Board of Selectmen, the road will become a town way.

Taxpayers also voted in favor of the town’s purchasing an excavator that has been leased since last summer. The board agreed that the 1993 Caterpillar has helped the town speed up ditching work this year, and the vehicle will be purchased for $22,000 in addition to the $13,000 that is owed on the lease payment.

“I think this was a smart move for the town,” Chairman Ron Grant said. “We just need to shift some money around to make this happen.”
