POLAND – Police say there’s nothing to indicate any wrongdoing in connection with the discovery of a man’s body Saturday afternoon in woods off Route 26.

A hunter found the body of Dana G. Littlefield, 54, about 2 p.m.

State Trooper Scott Sawyer is investigating.

“It does not appear to be suspicious,” Sawyer said Monday afternoon.

Littlefield lived in Poland. In his obituary, his family said that he died of natural causes while deer hunting on Saturday.

The state Medical Examiner’s Office conducted an autopsy Monday.

Sawyer said Littlefield had gone into the woods Saturday morning. His body was found near 263 Main St. – Route 26 in Poland – later in the day by another hunter.

Sawyer said he’s treating the case as an unattended death.

Littlefield operated the Shaker Hill Nursery and Landscape Co. His passions included fishing and hunting, according to his obituary.

A memorial service for him will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday at the Poland Community Church.

Androscoggin County sheriff’s deputies, game wardens and Poland fire and rescue personnel assisted Sawyer at the scene, he said.
