AUBURN – In an effort to find new and creative ways to serve the people, police on Friday will be clearing tables and serving up grub at the Ground Round.
In truth, the yearly “Tip-a-Cop” event is more about cops raising money for Special Olympics than perfecting their culinary skills.
Starting about 4:30 p.m. Friday, police officers from Lewiston and Auburn will be at work at the Center Street restaurant in hopes of producing tips for next year’s Special Olympics games.
Also at the restaurant Friday, a shiny 2005 Harley-Davidson Heritage Softail motorcycle will be on display. The bike is a replica of another Harley that is being raffled off. Diners at the Ground Round may buy a ticket and possibly win the new ride.
Police expect a half-dozen officers to throw on aprons for the event.
