Joins USDA
LEWISTON – Michael W. Aube, state director of USDA Rural Development, has announced that Janice M. Stroud, a resident of Casper, Wyo., has joined the USDA Rural Development staff as the area director at the Lewiston area office.
She will serve as a key member of the state director’s staff, participating in the planning, marketing, development and implementation of rural development and its programs.
Stroud previously worked as an area director for rural development in Wyoming. She is a 1986 graduate of North Carolina State University and holds a bachelor’s degree in agriculture economics.
Camp weekend
WINTHROP – Camp Ray of Hope will be held at Camp Mechuwana Sept. 16 to 18. The annual weekend retreat is for Maine families and individuals who have experienced the death of a significant person in their lives.
Attendees can network with other people from throughout the state who are also in the middle of transition from loss by death. Children and adults participate with their peers in support groups, workshops and self-care.
Applicants from throughout the state are considered. Cost is $50 a person or $150 for a family of three or more. Some scholarship money is available. Donations for scholarships are accepted. Call 873-3615, e-mail [email protected] or visit www.hvwa.org for information.
Rose society
BOOTHBAY HARBOR – The Mid-Maine Rose Society will hold a special speaker meeting on Sunday, Sept. 11, at Fisherman’s Wharf Inn, Pier 6.
Luncheon will be held from 11:45 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. followed by a meeting at 1. Speaker will be Dr. Lakshmi Sridharan of San Jose, Calif., who will review her new book, “A Practical Guide to Growing Roses Successfully.”
