LEWISTON – A search-and-rescue team will offer river awareness tips to people who live in River Valley Village at 10 a.m. Friday, Aug. 12, at the river.

The Androscoggin County Sheriff Department’s Surface Underwater Search and Recovery Team will meet with residents behind 37 Tall Pines Drive. The team will offer rules for dams, rivers and canals; personal flotation devices; and guidelines for water rescue.

In case of inclement weather, the meeting will take place in the Caleb Community Center.

The decision to help came after a May 21 meeting at which River Valley residents raised concerns about area children playing on the banks of the nearby Androscoggin River.

Search and Recovery Team presenters will be Capt. Raymond Lafrance, Cpl. Jeff Carr, Officer Jim Quinlan, Sgt. William Gagne, Deputy David Rancourt and dive instructor Paul Rollins.

The presentation is sponsored by the Recreation and Parks Department, the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Department and the Caleb Foundation.
