TURNER – Volunteers are needed to serve on the Boofy Quimby Municipal Center Committee, as planning for major work on the facility is under way.

An addition to the building is being planned, the center needs a new entrance including a wheelchair ramp and improvements will be made to the heating system.

Selectmen are urging residents with an interest in improving and maintaining the facility to come forward, especially those with applicable skills.

“People with some background and knowledge in the work that needs to be done could be a big help to the committee,” Selectman Ralph Caldwell said at a board meeting this week. Anyone interested in serving is asked to call the Town Office at 225-3414. The actual work on the project will be done next year.

In other business:

• The town will receive $99,844 from the state in Urban-Rural Initiative Program funds for the fiscal year that began July 1. The town is to use the funds only for capital improvements to public roads, and they will be received in equal quarterly payments beginning in September. The funds were commonly referred to as state aid road funds.

• Town Manager James Catlin summarized a brief discussion on the projected mill rate by saying he would have all of the figures in the days ahead, and would be presenting a specific figure for the board to vote upon at its Aug. 1 meeting.
