Dear Sun Spots: I have received a yarn stash and am looking for volunteers to knit the appropriate yarns into mittens for children at the Longley School. Anyone interested in knitting several pairs for children who might need them for the coming year, please contact me at (207) 755-9453. I would like to have the mittens completed by the beginning of the new school year, 2005-2006. Please leave a message on my answering machine on how I can reach you. – Amy Guimond, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: I read and enjoy your column daily. I thought you would like to know that the Free Store is in Mexico not Rumford as your column has mentioned twice recently. The Free Store (although not required), does accept donations. There is a can by the door on the way out. The people who work there are all volunteers. They are all very nice, and have aided me in assisting several people find furnishings for apartments. Rumford does have a few stores that offer items for resale that I know of. There is the What-Not-Shop located in the old Armory located at 85 Lincoln Ave. The proceeds go to benefit the participants of the Adult Activity Center, also located in the building. There is the Second Time Around store located on Congress Street. I think the proceeds go to the Senior Center also located on Congress Street. Rich who works there is very nice. And there is also The Second Wind store, located on one of the cross streets of Congress Street. I am not sure but I think that is privately owned. The gentleman there is very pleasant, always willing to make a deal and has accommodated with deliveries when asked. The prices in all three places are receptive to those on a limited budget. Thank you for your time. – Roxanne Dupree, East Dixfield.
Dear Sun Spots: I have a stainless steel fry pan which is perfectly good except the Teflon covering is chipped and peeling. Does Sun Spots know of a company that “re-Teflon’s these pans? My pan is the Martha Stewart brand purchased from K-Mart. Any suggestions other than throwing out the frying pan? – No Name, No Town.
Dear Sun Spots: If anyone has a book of patterns for fisherman knit sweaters that they would be willing to sell, I would be interested in buying it. The book that I have is called “The Bernat Book of Irish Knits.” But I have used it so much that it is in tatters. I am especially interested in sizes 4-12. I can be reached at (207) 583-4282. – Ella, No Town.
