LEWISTON – A woman veered off Pond Road and struck an electrical pole Saturday afternoon, cutting power to the area.

Georgette Pomerleau, 62, of Lewiston, was driving a 1997 Dodge Caravan down Pond Road around 5:30 p.m., Lewiston police said, when she went off the road. She hit the pole, snapping it and sending her van down a grassy embankment.

Police said she had a medical condition.

She was taken to the hospital. Police said Pomerleau’s injuries did not appear to be life-threatening. There were no passengers in the car.

The crash cut power to the surrounding area, including several homes and a few Sabattus Street traffic lights. Power was being restored Saturday night.
