LEWISTON – Every officer in the city and police from neighboring departments were called Saturday night to the scene of an out-of-control party. Yet, no one was hurt and just three people were arrested after police arrived at 151 Grove St. about 8:30 p.m. It was their second visit to the address in 10 minutes.
More than 40 people were inside, Lewiston Police Lt. Thomas Avery said. People were angry. And a lot of alcohol was present.
So, police issued a rare call for all available officers.
“We wanted to create a show of force,” Avery said. Police from Auburn, Lisbon and the Androscoggin County Sheriff’s Office all responded, backing up the Lewiston cars. Within minutes, more than a dozen cruisers and three ambulances arrived at the house.
The house is situated in a close, residential neighborhood. People in the nearby homes had called the police.
Officers first arrived about 8:20 p.m. and issued a warning. Then, the second call came from a neighbor.
Blydell James, who lives at the Grove Street home, was arrested and charged with disorderly conduct. Two other people were arrested and similarly charged, but their names were unavailable at press time.
“We could have arrested a lot more, ” Avery said. “We used restraint.”
