LEEDS – Fire officials on Tuesday were investigating the cause of a fire that leveled an abandoned mobile home on Burnt Piece Road.

The 6 p.m. blaze destroyed the home and an addition, but no one was hurt and no other buildings were threatened by flames.

Fire crews from four towns responded to the remote area off Roger Sumner Road and found the building fully engulfed.

“When we got there, it was already half gone,” said Leeds Fire Chief Glenn Holt.

The chief said the mobile home had been vacant for a year or more; the owner now lives in Wisconsin. There was no power hooked up to the building, Holt said.

Fire crews from Monmouth, Greene and Wales assisted at the scene while Turner crews filled in at the Leeds station.
