LISBON – There will be only one contested race in the municipal election on Saturday, and there are no candidates for one office that will be filled by write-in votes.

Two candidates, Steven E. Curtis and Edward T. Madden, will square off for a single seat on the Board of Selectmen being vacated by L. Scott D’Ambois, who is not seeking re-election.

Age: 42

Occupation: Self-employed carpenter

Marital status: Married, 5 children

Education: Lisbon High School

Length of residence: Lifetime

Previous elective office: None

Community involvement: Recreation Committee chairman, five years; member, Pejepscot Sno-Chiefs Snowmobile Club for 15 years, president for two years; member, Lisbon Trails Committee; Lisbon Junior Athletic League for 10 years, past president; former member, Lisbon Falls Fire Company, nine and a half years; Firefighter of the Year in 1994.

If elected, he hopes to “bring town departments together, working as one” and says he will work to keep taxes low.

Edward T. Madden

Age: 72

Occupation: Retired, 20-year veteran of the Air Force

Marital status: Married, 5 grown children

Education: High school

Length of residence: Since 1965

Previous elective office: Board of Selectmen, nine years; Advisory Board, one year

Community involvement: Past president of the Lisbon Rotary Club; past president of the Lisbon Fish and Game Association; former member of the American Legion; participated in bell-ringing, spaghetti suppers, and Rotary Club Thanksgiving dinners

If elected, he would work with Community Development Director Dan Feeney. “Dan has a lot of programs and I’d like to help him. There’s a lot going on in Social Security right now, (and) I want to get more involved.

Running unopposed:

Prudence Grant for School Committee and James C. Gurney Jr. for Water Commission, both three-year terms. No one is running for a three-year opening on the Library Governing Board. That position will be filled by write-in votes.
