LEWISTON – Two people were charged with robbery shortly before 8 p.m. Saturday after their debt-collecting tactics ran afoul of the law.

“It was a penny-ante robbery,” said Lewiston police Sgt. David St. Pierre on Sunday. “They beat up a guy. There were no weapons. They wanted to collect some money, and they assaulted a man.”

Charged were Allen D. Porter, 30, of 24 Harvey Lane in Litchfield and Roseanne St. George, 36, of 392 Sabattus St.

Each is facing a robbery charge.

They were held at the county jail on $10,000 cash bail pending an initial court appearance.

Police arrested both at St. George’s home.

The alleged robbery took place at a Howe Street apartment in Lewiston.

The victim wasn’t badly hurt, St. Pierre said. He was checked for bruises at Central Maine Medical Center then discharged.

A money order taken from him was recovered by police.
