LEWISTON – Androscoggin Home Care and Hospice has rescheduled the start of its bereavement volunteer training, originally slated to begin in March, to Thursday, April 7. The five training classes will take place from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the AHCH office, 15 Strawberry Ave.
The program will prepare volunteers for a range of responsibilities in offering support to families of hospice patients.
The classes will be facilitated by Jim Douglas, agency hospice bereavement coordinator. The curriculum is comprehensive in scope, exploring grief through group discussions, readings and individual and group activities. Topics will include hospice philosophy, understanding the issues surrounding grief, recognizing normal and complicated grief, listening skills and companioning.
For more information or to register for the training, interested parties may contact Nancy Greene, volunteer coordinator, at 777-7740, ext. 1281. No previous volunteer training is required and refreshments will be served.
