LEWISTON – Three veteran officers are taking on new roles after a series of promotions at the police department.
A longtime detective at the Lewiston Police Department was promoted out of the Criminal Investigation Division while another officer was promoted to fill the gap. Meanwhile, a 10-year veteran of patrol has been assigned to take over as domestic-violence coordinator.
David J. Chick, a 21-year member of the force has been promoted to the rank of sergeant after more than eight years as an investigator. He was appointed a patrol officer in 1984. He served for 12 years in the patrol division and was then promoted to the rank of detective in April of 1996.
Chick served nine years in the Criminal Investigation Division as a detective in the burglary and property crimes unit. He has served as a uniformed patrol officer, a field training officer, Automated Fingerprint Identification operator and a member of the department’s Special Enforcement Team.
Chick is an academy-certified instructor from the Maine Criminal Justice Academy and teaches police officers about the operation of the Intoxilizer and alcohol-influence detection. A graduate of Monmouth Academy, Chick attended Liberty University in Lynchburg, Va., where he received his degree in pastoral studies. Chick also holds a certification in automobile mechanics and is a motor vehicle inspection examiner. He has been assigned to the morning shift where he works as a road supervisor.
Lee E. Jones, a 19-year veteran of the force, has been promoted to the rank of detective. Jones, who also graduated from Monmouth Academy, is attending college where he is working on a degree in criminal justice.
Jones has served in many assignments for the department, including bike and motorcycle patrols, and the Special Enforcement Team.
Jones is a licensed paramedic, who serves as the department’s instructor for certification in the use of automatic emergency defibrillators. He played an important role in the ability to assign an A.E.D. unit to each patrol unit in the city. Jones was promoted from the position of the domestic-violence coordinator, the position he held for the past two years.
Alice French, a 10-year veteran of the department, succeeds him as domestic-violence coordinator. She has served on several units and boards for the Lewiston Police Department such as the bicycle unit and the “Empower Lewiston” board. French has worked numerous special details and is well-versed in community-oriented policing. A graduate of Lewiston High School, she earned a bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine in administration of justice.
French also holds the rank of lieutenant in the Army Reserves and is assigned to the training battalion in Lewiston.
