LEWISTON – Goodbye, Maine Public Radio.

Farewell, Maine Public Television.

Adios, Maine PBS and Maine Public Broadcasting.

Your names are being retired so viewers and listeners alike will have a clearer picture, if you will, of the future.

Effective Feb. 23, Maine Public Broadcasting Corp. will formally change its name, becoming the Maine Public Broadcasting Network, combining its television, radio, Internet and educational services under one brand name and featuring a new logo design.

Maine Public Broadcasting Network will replace the various names by which the organization has become known over the years.

“The MPBN-unified identity will provide a clearer and more complete context for the statewide services that we offer: the more-familiar television and radio broadcasting, an increasingly important Web site and a variety of educational outreach opportunities developed for educators, children and parents,” said Mary Anne Alhadeff, president & CEO of the network.

The new logo was inspired by natural elements: water, earth and sky. Viewers may notice the new logo during televised coverage of the Maine Principals’ Association High School Basketball Tournament, which begins Feb. 23. The new network Web site will also be launched on that day at www.mpbn.net.

Maine Public Broadcasting Network is the largest Maine-based, member-supported organization in the state, with audiences in Maine and parts of New Hampshire and New Brunswick.

The network attracts more than a half-million viewers and listeners each week, according to its staff.
