AUBURN – A telecommunications firm hoping to take over space in the Kittyhawk Industrial Park will take over the city of Auburn tax incentive as well.

Councilors agreed to let Refurb Supplies become the new beneficiary of a Tax Increment Financing District Monday night. The original TIF agreement between the city and Avery-Phillips subsidiary American Falcon was signed in 1998.

Economic Development Director Roland Miller said there is still 10 years left in the TIF deal, which returns a portion of real estate property taxes paid to the city. Miller said the agreement is worth about $30,000 annually for the next five years and $15,000 for five years after that.

Joe Elichaa, of Refurb Supplies, said he hopes to take over American Falcon’s building this year. The company, which provides equipment and tools for telecommunications equipment refurbishers, opened its offices in the Kittyhawk park a year ago. The company started with five employees in 12,000 square feet of space and has added six employees since then. Elichaa said he hopes to hire three new employees after the move.

“This is helping a new business that is looking forward to a lot of new growth,” Miller said. Councilors agreed, passing a resolution authorizing the change 6-0.

Councilors voted 6-0 to accept the National Fire Prevention Association’s 2005 National Electric Code. The codes are standard for the entire country and are updated every two years. City Electrician Charles DeAngelis said the latest version should not change much for Auburn residents.
