WESTBROOK – Maine’s credit unions announce that the third annual Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour raised a record-setting amount of $12,000 toward ending hunger in Maine, surpassing last year’s total by $3,000. In addition to money raised, the walk exposed thousands of people to the existence of hunger in Maine.

In a ceremony held at the Maine Credit Union League, the woman who heads the walk, Brenda Davis, executive director of Cross Roads Ministries, was presented with a final, surprise, monetary donation of $700 from the credit unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger, as well as a plaque of appreciation for her efforts. The $700 donation signifies the 700 miles that Davis walked throughout the state.

“This year, the Maine Credit Unions’ Ending Hunger Walking Tour exceeded expectations, visiting 46 communities, 70 credit unions, covering 700 miles on foot and thousands by car,” said Jon Paradise, governmental and public affairs manager of the league. “In the past three years, the Maine Credit Unions’ Campaign for Ending Hunger has donated $36,000 of the $41,000 raised by the walk,” he said.

The tour began on Nov. 1 in Westbrook at the Maine Credit Union League and concluded Nov. 20 at Penobscot County FCU.
