AUBURN – The Androscoggin County Commission has authorized the purchase of a new sheriff’s cruiser to replace a vehicle totaled in a rollover in Minot in October.

The bid was awarded to Lee Chevrolet of Auburn for $18,776 for a 2005 Chevrolet Impala with a police package.

Sheriff’s Capt. Raymond Lafrance told the commission at its recent meeting that insurance would not cover the full cost of replacing the patrol vehicle. The commission authorized the expenditure of $1,100 from the contingency account to cover the difference.

Lafrance said an insurance adjuster declared that the 2004 Chevrolet Impala cruiser with about 19,000 miles was totaled. The vehicle was purchased in late 2003 and delivered to the Sheriff’s Department in February.

There were no injuries in the rollover crash that happened while a deputy was en route to an accident on Jackson Hill Road in Auburn.

In other business, the commission approved a contract with Maine Pretrial Services for 2005 for $90,064. The amount was $1,606 short of the actual cost of $91,670.
