AUBURN – The School Department will not move into the new Auburn Hall on Court Street for another month.

The superintendent’s office, which is in an old school building on High Street, was expected to move into the new $8.7 million city building this week. Instead, the superintendent, business manager and other administrators will move at the end of December.

The later move will allow the School Department to transition during winter break, when school is not in session.

Officials said the Franklin School, an alternative school for students in grades 10 through 12, may take over the old superintendent’s building once it’s vacated. But sprinklers must first be installed and the building must meet fire codes. If those upgrades take a long time or prove too expensive, the alternative school may eventually move into one of the school system’s elementary schools instead.
