Dear Sun Spots: The Lewiston Historical Commission is looking for help in gathering information, personal stories, and photographs related to the old Empire Theater on Main Street in downtown Lewiston. The theater building, constructed in 1903, is scheduled to be removed as part of the Island Point redevelopment project. Because of these exciting changes to our downtown, we are putting together a book on the history of the theater to help celebrate what the 1,300-seat theater once meant to the community and the kind of entertainment that was popular to several generations of Lewiston people. Please contact us at [email protected] or Lewiston Historical Commission, 36 Oak St., Lewiston, ME 04240, or call 782-8224. – Rick Morris, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: I have a Look Around Crissy doll manufactured by Ideal in 1972. Is there anyone in the area who could tell me the value of that doll today? – No Name, No Town.
Answer: You may want to contact Dan Poulin at Orphan Annie’s, 96 Court St., Auburn, (207) 782-0638, who may be able to help find the doll’s value. Or, you could try searching the Internet or visiting eBay at www.ebay.com to get an idea of what buyers are willing to pay.

Dear Sun Spots: Last October, an independent film was released by Luke Films called “Therese, Ordinary Girl, Extraordinary Soul.” It is the story of Thérèse of Lisieux, the most popular saint of modern times. In looking at the film’s Web site, www.theresefilm.com, the closest movie theater showing this film was in Boston. Would Sun Spots inquire to find out if any cinemas in Maine will be showing this inspiring film soon or if it will be shown at the upcoming Maine International Film Festival in Waterville? – J.P., Lewiston.
Answer: The movie’s Web site still does not list Maine its lineup. You can try contacting Luke Films to find out if and when the movie will play in Maine or to make this request. They can be reached at Luke Films Inc., 5319 SW Westgate Drive Suite 130, Portland, Ore. 97221, (503) 546-5685. The eighth annual Maine International Film Festival 2005’s Web site at www.miff.org, has yet to publish the complete lineup for this year’s festival, which will be July 15 through 24 in the Waterville Opera House and in Railroad Square Cinema. You could try calling them at (207) 861-8138 or visit that Web site occasionally for updates.
Dear Sun Spots: My granddaughter, who is almost 8 years old, has cystic fibrosis. We are having our second benefit dance at the Ramada Inn on March 18. We are currently looking for crafters who would like to donate things they make, like quilts, etc., for us to raffle at the dance. All money collected goes to the C.F. Foundation. Any donation would be greatly appreciated. I can be reached at (207) 353-2253. – Pat, Lisbon.
Dear Sun Spots: The Auburn location of Lutheran Community Services is looking to open a “café”-style room within the 155 Center St. building. This would serve as a meeting place for our clients with developmental disabilities to invite their family members for coffee and muffins and have a very pleasant visit. We have gotten such wonderful response in the past from our letters to Sun Spots that I would like to know if anyone would have any small, round bistro-style tables, similar to a patio set for two people. If they would like to donate these items to our nonprofit organization, it would be immensely appreciated. – Joyce Dubay, Auburn.
