LISBON FALLS – Somebody who shopped at the Kitty Korner store on Route 196 recently will awake this morning significantly richer.
The winning Tri-State Megabucks ticket worth $4.2 million was sold at the store, The Associated Press reported Wednesday night. It was the only winning ticket sold.
The identity of the new millionaire was a mystery late Wednesday. The Kitty Korner store was closed by the time the news announced.
There was no answer at the Tri-State Lottery offices. A Lisbon town official had not heard that a new millionaire may be living in town.
In fact, she guessed the person or persons holding the valuable lottery ticket may not learn of the good fortune until checking the numbers this morning.
The lucky numbers were: 2-9-20-23-25-37 with a bonus number of 22.
It is not the first time a winning Megabucks ticket has been sold in town, although it appears to be the biggest jackpot. In 1989, a ticket worth an $85,000 annuity was sold at the Lisbon Yankee Grocer. In 1997, someone made off with $600,000 cash after buying a Megabucks ticket at the Xtra Mart.
The drawing Wednesday night also resulted in smaller prizes of $68,000 or free tickets, although it was not known where those were sold.
If you wake up and find your Megabucks ticket is a dud, take heart. There was an estimated $177.1 million Powerball jackpot up for grabs Wednesday night. The winning numbers were 5-6-19-44-50, with the Powerball 28; it wasn’t immediately known if there were any jackpot winners.
