LEWISTON – The driver of a car that was squashed after it collided with a tractor-trailer truck on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge on Friday remained in critical condition Sunday night.

A nursing supervisor at Central Maine Medical Center said the condition of Joseph Chasse, 19, was unchanged.

However, Chasse’s passenger, Caitlin Cameron, 18, of Minot, was discharged from the hospital Sunday, the nursing supervisor said.

Both were in a Saturn driven by Chasse, who lives in Lewiston, when it collided with the big rig on the bridge on the Lewiston side. The truck driver, Oakley Shedd, 36, wasn’t hurt in the crash.

Lewiston police and the State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Team are investigating the crash.
