TURNER – Vandals hit Leavitt Area High School Tuesday and Wednesday nights causing damage to the property, buildings and equipment.
Trooper Matt Griffin of the Maine State Police said vandals kicked in the doors of four smaller buildings on the school property sometime after 9 p.m. Tuesday. Maintenance workers found the damage at 6 a.m. Wednesday when they arrived at the school.
“The buildings were just ransacked,” Griffin said. “There were items throw all about – I even recovered some in the woods.”
On Wednesday night, the vandals climbed a ladder that was being used to repair the roof and spray painted a large, black 04 on the side of the building. It was also discovered by the maintenance workers the following morning, Griffin said.
Although the school district hasn’t given an estimate of the damage to the Maine State Police, Griffin believes that there was probably a few thousand dollars in damage.
Anyone with information leading to those responsible are being asked to call the Maine State Police at their barracks in Gray at 1-800-228-0857.
