Dear Sun Spots: Please help make our residents’ holidays memorable!
I am the family service worker at Dirigo Place, a nonprofit organization for adolescent boys and girls diagnosed with mental health issues. During their stay, residents volunteer at Bradbury Mountain and Lost Valley. During the winter season, the residents do a food drive for AWAP, Toys for Tots and Coats for Kids. With the coming Christmas holiday just around the corner, we are trying to give residents a memorable holiday.
We would like to ask your readers to help support us with making the Christmas season special. Some ideas that have been used in the past include: monetary donations, sponsorship of a resident, donation of food and drink for our celebration, taking up collections with those you work with or donation of items. Every bit helps with our residents and the look of joy on their faces is a great reward.
Please send or drop off donations to: Dirigo Place, 98 Russell St., Lewiston, ME 04240. For more information, please contact Heather at (207) 784-7144. Thank you for your help. – Heather Lent, Lewiston.
Dear Sun Spots: Do you have any “Thomas the Train” books or movies that your little boy or grandson has outgrown? If you do, I have a 2-year-old grandson that would sure love to have them. I would be willing to purchase them at a reasonable price. Please contact me. Thank you. I can be reached at (207) 225-2154. – Mary, Turner.
Dear Sun Spots: Several months ago, I signed up for a trip to New York on Nov. 24. I have tried to contact the tour guide of East West Tours & Travel with no luck. The tour guide was Troy Mills, and I get no luck calling him. Please can you help me? – No Name, Bethel.
Answer: Unfortunately, the phone number Sun Spots located in Rumford was disconnected with no further information available. Perhaps other readers out there familiar with this company would be willing to assist you. Sun Spots would urge them to contact the column ASAP.
Dear Sun Spots: Thank you for all the help you have given me in the past. I am seeking your help once more. I am writing this for my aunt who brought a very expensive pocketbook to have the zipper replaced at Sugar Bear Cobblers, behind CVS in Lewiston. She brought the pocketbook in three months ago. Since then, she has been calling them but they don’t answer their phone. Yesterday she went over and everything was closed. Is there some way we could reach them?
Also, I would appreciate it if you could please give me the names of other cobblers in the area. – No Name. No Town.
Answer: Unfortunately, Sun Spots has not been able to learn anything about this business and perhaps other readers may be willing to assist you here.
Regarding your second question you should try contacting Shoe Renu on Maine Street (Fort Andross) in Brunswick, (207) 725-8557. They are open Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. They also repair leather coats and replace zippers, such as the work you’re seeking, as well as repair shoes and regular footwear.
