LEWISTON – The dedication of the new “Price of Freedom” monument will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 18 in Veterans Memorial Park on Main Street in Lewiston.
The program will start with an opening ceremony, with the bagpipe leading the two honor guards, followed by the playing of the national anthem, an invocation, and speeches by Joe Paradis and Bert Dutil, who will unveil the monument. There also will be speeches by invited individuals in the government, military and veteran organizations, songs by the “Just Us” singers, and a fly-over by aircraft from the Brunswick Naval Air Station.
Parking will be across the street, except for VIPs, who may park behind the park. Handicapped spaces are available in the Central Maine Power parking lot. Police and members of the 309th Army Reserve unit will help with the traffic and parking. People attending the event are asked to bring their chairs, as the event will last close to two hours.
Tables will have special items for sale, as well as applications for anyone wishing to add a veteran’s or military individual’s name on the stones. Donations will also be accepted for the possible future addition of military hardware and benches.
