LEWISTON – Maine Public Broadcasting is seeking volunteers to fill six vacancies on its community advisory board. The deadline for submissions is Sept. 17.

The board serves in an advisory capacity to Maine Public Broadcasting’s board of trustees and staff. The group reviews Maine PBS and Maine Public Radio’s programming goals and determines whether the programming and services meet the specialized educational and cultural needs of the community.

Members are chosen to serve because they reflect different aspects of the community Maine Public Broadcasting serves. These aspects may include geography, age groups, diverse interests and cultural or ethnic groups. Members are expected to express their own opinions on programming issues. They will also occasionally solicit opinions and suggestions from the public.

Each new member may serve for two consecutive four-year terms. The board meets twice a year. Generally one meeting is held at Maine Public Broadcasting’s Bangor facility and the other at the Lewiston offices. Special meetings may be called when necessary.

Those interested in being considered should submit an application form. Applications and information are available online at mpbc.org. Click on About Us, then MPBC Community Advisory Board.
