LEWISTON – A toddler who was found unconscious in a tub on Howe Street on Wednesday had been taking a bath with his 3-year-old brother, police said Thursday.

Police were continuing to investigate the death of 18-month-old Camden Emmons, who died after he was found face-down in the tub at 118 Howe St.

Investigators said the child’s mother, 22-year-old Jessica Parkins, called for help after discovering the baby unconscious and not breathing.

Parkins had placed her two sons in the tub sometime about 8 p.m., and called for help shortly after when she found Emmons under water. It was unclear exactly how long the boy had been submerged.

Police officers who first arrived at the scene began performing cardiopulmonary resuscitation on the child until paramedics arrived. Lifesaving measures continued as the boy was taken to Central Maine Medical Center, where he died.

Neighbors said Parkins had lived on the second floor of the building for two months with her children.
