AUBURN – City Councilor Bob Mennealy said he hopes to be back on the campaign trail next week after a nasty mistake landed him in Central Maine Medical Center.
Mennealy’s 23-year-old son found him collapsed and unconscious on his apartment floor Sunday night. He called 911 and performed cardiopulmonary resuscitation on his father while waiting for the ambulance to arrive.
Mennealy, 54, blamed the incident on a bad combination of medicine. His doctor had prescribed a new medication to treat his paralysis – Mennealy suffers from the combined effects of a stroke and a ski accident. The new medicine didn’t mix well with his existing treatment, however.
The last thing he remembers is talking to his daughter in California at midnight Saturday.
Mennealy said he hopes to be out of the hospital in time for his 2-year-old grandson’s birthday.
Mennealy said he doesn’t think the incident will affect his two political campaigns. He’s running for re-election to his at-large City Council seat and seeking a term on the Androscoggin County Commission.
