LEWISTON – Brent Matthews will have to wait another week to find out whether the court will order a preliminary injunction prohibiting him from going near the Lewiston mosque that he is accused of desecrating with a pig’s head.
The hearing, scheduled for Wednesday, has been postponed until Aug. 31. The prosecutor is on vacation, according to court records.
Matthews, 33, has been accused of rolling a frozen pig’s head into the Lewiston-Auburn Islamic Center on Lisbon Street on the night of July 3. The state has asked for a preliminary injunction that would bar Matthews from going within 150 feet of the mosque or communicating with its members.
