This is in response to the Kennebec Journal story, printed in the Sun Journal, Aug. 23, about how the Litchfield Fair organization lost money. Another sad story on theft that was totally preventable.
If owners would only look at their bank statements before handing it over to the bookkeeper (bean counter). That alerts any potential thief that transactions are being scanned and would deter temptations of “borrowing” from the business.
I have witnessed several of these unauthorized “borrowings” in my career, and every one would have been detected by a curious eye.
Much cheaper and less stressful than a full blown audit.
