DURHAM – A 41-year-old pedestrian, William McEnery of 369 Bowie Hill Road, was in serious condition at Central Maine Medical Center Monday night after he was struck by a snowplow truck on Bowie Hill Road early in the morning, according to a state trooper.
The plow truck operator was identified as Clifton H. Larrabee Sr., 51, of Durham.
The investigating officer, Maine State Trooper Ricci Cote, said that Larrabee, who is the town’s road commissioner, was plowing snow along Bowie Hill Road when the plow struck McEnery shortly after 2 a.m.
Cote, who has not been able to talk with the victim, said it was unclear if McEnery was standing up, on the ground or unconscious when he was struck.
The victim was transported by LifeFlight to Central Maine Medical Center in Lewiston where he was admitted to the critical care unit, the trooper said.
The large plow truck is owned by Larrabee Construction Inc. The firm, owned by Larrabee, has held a contract with the town of Durham for snow removal for many years, and it plows and sands all roads within the town.
As of late Monday, the investigation was still incomplete, Trooper Cote said.
