LEWISTON – A Lewiston man faces up to 15 years in prison after he was convicted in federal court Tuesday on a drug trafficking charge.
Melvin Brown, 39, was found guilty of possessing and intent to distribute cocaine after a one day trial in U.S. District Court in Portland.
The charge stems from a series of undercover cocaine buys Maine Drug Enforcement agents made in downtown Lewiston in the late summer, police said.
Brown was arrested locally but was later indicted in federal court. Investigators said the investigation that snared Brown was the same that led to the arrests of several others, including a Bates College music professor. More arrests may be made from that investigation.
Brown faces a minimum of 15 years in federal prison because of previous drug trafficking charges, here and in other states.
