AUBURN – A local truck driver was arrested on the Maine Turnpike Thursday afternoon on a warrant out of Ohio charging him with vehicular manslaughter.
Jason Moore, 29, was arrested about 5 p.m. after police stopped the tractor-trailer he was driving on the turnpike in Kittery. He was arrested on the warrant, jailed and expected to be extradited to Ohio.
Police said Moore was last known to live in Auburn, although he had also been known to live in Lewiston. Investigators in Auburn have dealt with him locally on other matters in the past, officials said.
For days, police all over the country had been searching for Moore after he was named as the suspect in a death in Columbiana County, Ohio.
Agents from the Central Maine Violent Crime Task Force, based in Lewiston, had been searching for Moore since the start of the week.
On Thursday, police departments in Lewiston and Auburn were alerted to be on the lookout for the baby blue colored Freightliner Moore was believed to be driving toward the area.
Investigators had learned that Moore had left Springfield, Mass., about 3:30 p.m. and that he was bound for Auburn, police said.
While Maine State Police troopers watched the highway, police in the Twin Cities and surrounding towns were keeping their eyes open for the rig.
Just after 5 p.m., the police bulletin was canceled when Moore, who also goes by the name Larry Reid, was arrested in Kittery.
Details about the death Moore is charged with were unavailable Thursday night. The warrant was issued by the Columbiana County Sheriff’s Office in Ohio.
