LEWISTON – Residents of Little Canada will be among the first to see the results of last May’s Gas Works design charrette.
Architect Nat Salfas will present schemes for redeveloping the Gas Works area south of Lewiston’s downtown at a special public meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at The Passtime Club at 45 Cedar St.
The designs grew out of a seminar last May. Organizers met to find new uses for the site, near the intersection of Lincoln and Locust streets. That land was home to a coal gas refining plant. It includes the Avon, Androscoggin and Cumberland mills.
“These are the people who live in the area, so we wanted to approach them first,” Salfas said.
“Not many people from the area were able to attend the charrette, so we wanted to discuss our plans and see what they have to say.”
Plans include developing retail areas, hotels and cultural attractions, Salfas said.
