NORWAY — Timothy A. Churchill, president and CEO, has announced that the Leapfrog Group has recognized Stephens Memorial Hospital as one of three top rural hospitals in the country for its delivery of quality care, based on results from The Leapfrog Hospital Survey.

The survey is the only national public comparison of hospitals on key quality measures such as computer physician order entry, medication systems, infection rates, safety practices and efficiency. Stephens Memorial Hospital scored in the top decile nationally for delivering quality care and its prudent utilization of resources.

David Kumaki, MD; M. Patricia Cook, senior vice president-clinical; and Katherine M. Bonney, vice president for performance improvement, were presented the award on behalf of the hospital on Dec. 3, at a ceremony in Washington, D.C.

Churchill said, “There is a significant amount of work that goes into our quality initiatives by everyone at Stephens Memorial Hospital and MaineHealth. We continuously strive to provide more efficient care which results in better outcomes for our patients, and we are excited to gain this recognition.”
