In June a group of teens from East Auburn Baptist Church went to Quito, Ecuador on a short-term missionary trip. I went with them and I am a student at Cemtral Maine Cristian Academy as a ninth grader. There were twenty-two of us. There was a lot of work to do but we weren’t short of fun.

The first week the group split up into two groups. One group went to a city called Guyaquil. The second group stayed in Ecuador’s capital city, Quito.

In Guyaquil we were quickly put to work helping the construction workers tear down a wall on the church that we helped to build last year. They also had us painting metal beams for a stage that they were building. We soon were enjoying this job. We also worked on a puppet show which the puppets were crafted by students of Central Maine Christian Academy. Though we were working hard we also had many fun days. We enjoyed trips to the local malls, a day at the hostels where we were staying.

The Quito team was also working hard. They worked at a nearby school doing odd jobs, and at a rehabilitation center working on construction. They also enjoyed a few day trips like a day at the equator, a trip to the natural hot springs, and many small shopping excursions.
